Tough and smart wild trout are what we chase after most. It takes years of experience to develop true fly guide instincts/strategies on the surrounding waters of the Reno/Tahoe area. Arlo has dedicated the past 20 years to fine tuning his guide prowess, improving and conveying information and techniques to clients in an easy-to-understand, friendly manner. The Truckee River is Arlo’s home-away-from-home, he has an unsurpassed, intimate relationship with this special river. He uses that connection to keep his clients productive, safe, and happy throughout the year. Arlo is an incredibly accomplished guide who excels in improving the abilities of anglers while chasing after some memorable, wild fish. He is an expert at combining the right angler with the right water (we are not all built the same!).

Arlo believes some of the traditional, fundamental techniques of fly fishing are being lost.  It is important for him to keep old fly fishing traditions alive while incorporating the newer modern techniques available. Innovations are integral in the progress of fly fishing when used as accessories to improve the work which has already been accomplished. Arlo believes fly anglers should know how to cast and understand a fly rod. Fly anglers should have at least a basic understanding of the bug life existing beneath their feet and buzzing around their ears (it is nice to know that mayflies do not bite). Fly anglers should be responsible for keeping alive the Golden Rule and perpetuating the process of courtesy-towards-others. Fly fishing has no future if those participating are following bad ethos. The collective knowledge gained each day on the water creates a successful, appreciative angler. Appreciative anglers give us the best future chances at clean cold water, courteous participants, and happy fish!
